Anal Fissure Surgery
Anal fissure is a tear in the lining of the anus or anal canal. It occurs due to passage of hard or
large stools and typically occurs in patients with chronic constipation. It can be either a fresh
tear when it is called Acute Anal Fissure, and if it lasts for more than 8 weeks it is called Chronic
Anal Fissure.
Chronic Anal Fissure is often associated with a fleshy external growth called “Sentinel Piles”.
An acute anal Fissure typically presents with severe tearing type pain and bleeding while passing stools.
Chronic fissures are less painful but more resistant to conservative management and often require surgical intervention.
